The capital of Rohan is Edoras, a fortified city high on a green hill in a vale at the base od the White Mountains. The city is surrounded by a dike, a wall, and a palisade (a fence of stakes). To reach it, you must ford the River Snowbourn and follow a road with two lines of barrows on either side that contain the tombs of the past kings of Rohan.
In the middle of Edoras stands Meduseld, the golden hall of King Theoden. Meduseld contains a vast meeting hall at the center of which is a dais with the king's throne. The hall serves as both feasting hall and official reception area.
